~ Tributes ~
March
28, 2004
Hello
Mom,
During
our drive back to Dallas, I had the chance to think about how
great a mother you have been to me. I have always taken pride in
calling you "Mom."
Yes,
we watched a miracle this weekend as you rallied back from a
very rough experience. This weekend reminded us that someday all
of us must make that final journey. Thanks to your guidance, we
are all headed to heaven.
Only
God knows how much longer you will be with us here on earth, so
let's make the best of every day that you have remaining.
When your time does come for you to pass into your
heavenly reward, just remember when Jesus welcomes you with the
"Well done, good and faithful servant" greeting, you
will have five kids here on earth responding with a great big
"Amen." Standing
right beside us will be our spouses, and your generations of
grandchildren who will be supporting our "Amen."
Now
don't be in any hurry to leave this world. None of us is ready
for that big hole you will leave here.
So just stick around awhile longer so we can have a few
more birthday celebrations.
Whatever
you do, don't stop making all those faces. It just shows the
humor and love that lies within you.

A Tribute to Mom Seaton By
Howard
Marshall “…Precious in the sight of the LORD…Is the death of His godly ones.”
Mom Seaton demonstrated to each of us the importance of
living a daily consistent life through her hard work as a wife
to your dad, (Pop, to us in-law kids) as a mom to you kids, a
grandma and great grandma to her grand & great grand
children, as a business woman and in her years of retirement,
as a resident at Good Sam’s.
My memories go back a long way, I mean a long way! Like when my mom would not let us read comic books, my
brother Paul and I would come down and read them at your
mom's house
(me more than Paul). And…the
fresh milk your folks sold to my folks and for some reason,
Carl, you remember me “banging glass milk jars together”
and breaking one once that I don’t remember.
And the time I was “running away from home” and
made it as far as your house before going back home.
Marge likes to think about the pies your mom would make
and me complaining about getting just one piece at our house
because you got more than one piece.
Then she learned that my mom made 12” pies and would
cut them in ¼’s and we each would get a piece.
Your mom baked 9” pies and baked them thin so you
could eat they “by hand”…so much for the sympathy from
Marge.
When Janet called me just after midnight on April 1, I
knew it was her before I picked up the phone.
Thank you, Janet, for being there to sing to your
grandma “Because He lives” and “Amazing Grace” and
offering words of encouragement.
You were in the right place at the right time. Thank you.
Each of you kids are a tribute to your parents,
through your Christian testimonies.
This gives evidence that God’s Word is true when it
comes to training children in the ways of the Lord and when
“they are old” they will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6) “…
Train
up
a child in the way he should go, Even when he is old he will
not depart from it.”
Let me sum up my comments by simply saying,
“…thanks for allowing me to be a part of your family for
these many years. (The married ones as well as the unmarried
ones…years that is…)
I love you and miss being with you.
Marge, I love you very much and am so happy we made the
decision for you to go home to be with your mom and I am so
happy the Lord gave you the strength and courage to make the
trip. I am
anxious to have you back with me again soon.
To all of you, just remember, the faith we are saved by is the faith we die by. I believe this and I preach it as well. Romans 8:28 is still true! |
Leon’s Comments in The
Epistle of Peace
Mom
was a fun-loving saint and all five of her children
attribute our salvation to her faithfulness in prayer and
her godly example. One of her granddaughters described her as an “incredibly
unique person – by choice.” When
I accepted the call to preach she was a very happy woman.
“Finally! God
answered my prayer and I have the preacher in my family that
I have been wanting.” |
Anna
Robertson, wife of our first A/G pastor Ray Robertson,
sent me a sympathy card with a $15.00 contribution to help
pay for the Epistle of Peace. I thought you
might appreciate her note.
"Dear
Leon and Roberta,
"I
was in Lansing, Michigan the day your mom died. Last
week I was looking through the papers for 'deaths' and
found your dear Mom's notice of death (for her, Eternal
Life!).
"I
remember your dear mother - she was a dear friend to May
Temple.
"If
I remember right she had sparkling brown eyes and auburn
hair back when I was in Lyons.
"I
have greatly enjoyed the "Epistle of Peace" you
have been sending me since I saw you at Shirley's in
Dallas five years ago at Easter. I always read your paper
and enjoy Carl's page too.
"God
bless you good!

Marge, I know that this is a great loss to you. But, as one of our Church leaders told me when our Dad passed away, "with the grief there is also a sense of relief." The battle is over...and it is won! Amen! What a great life God gave to her! What wonderful memories that each of you must have to bring you comfort and solace in this loss. Our
prayers are with you and we will look forward to seeing you
all again before too long. Howard,
your tribute was super. What wonderful words of blessing and
faith and hope and remembrance! I love you both. Barbara sends her love and sympathies. Paul Marshall |
