"...and
it came to pass!" is a statement we read in the Old Testament when there
was a prophecy.
Well, before Marge
and I ever left for vacation last summer, I knew it was going to be hot
in Kansas City, Missouri for General Council and our Hospitality Home Reunion.
Our
trip took us to Albuquerque, New Mexico to visit with Larry, Renée
and Miranda a week before flying on to El Paso, Texas where Shannon, David's
wife, Branin and Halee met us to take us on to their home in Alpine, Texas.
Our Border Patrol son "pulled us over" just as we reached town! These
first two stops were in July and it was hot just as we expected. Janet
met us when we
arrived in Kansas City August 1st near midnight and it was hot
and humid! We were in and out of
KC over the next month visiting all of our family and friends.
One
of the things I purposed in my heart before we ever left was that I was
not going to do any preaching.
I
just wanted to be "preached" to because I needed it. One
of the meetings scheduled after we arrived there was to have a Mother Layne's
Hospitality Home Servicemen's reunion, this we did on a Thursday afternoon
at Friendly Assembly in Kansas City, MO, where Jim and Judy Foster are
pastoring. God is doing many wonderful
things in that congregation, providing for them beyond their expectation.
This
is the church Arkie Radford pastored before and after Eunice died, and
led them in their new building construction.
Great
job, Arkie! To get the word out about the reunion we used the "message" center at General Council hoping that those attending would read and come. Those attending are all shown above. Chuck Vermillion attended Council, but did not make it to our reunion because of conflicting meetings going on at the same time. Jeff
Hall brought some old movies his dad, Glen (Delbert) Hall had taken.
Lots
of fun and stirring of memories.
Jerry
Terrill played a trombone solo, and we shared testimonies as we lunched
together. Howard opened the time
together with singing "Oh, I Care Not What Church You Belong To" and extended
a welcome to everyone. "…Earnestly
contending for the faith" is still very real to those attending.
All
we can say is we "wish you could have been there!"
God
bless each one of you very much and please continue to keep us posted on
the activities taking place in your lives. IF
the Lord tarries His soon return until the 2004 General Council to be held
in Washington, DC, we hope someone will plan another reunion for all who are able to make
it. After all, we all is gettin'
older!!! --
Howard Marshall When Jeff Hall got out his dad's old 8mm projector and showed some of the movies Del had taken in 1951 and 1952, Howard & Marge were especially pleased to see the film shot on March 28, 1953 as a group of us met the USS Piedmont (AD-17) at the pier, when Howard came in from Japan. Below is a photo taken aboard ship that day. Jeff and Mariana, we would love to have a copy of that film if you ever have the chance to video it! |
